There are approximately 6,000 diagnosed rare genetic conditions. Each one affects less than 0.1% of the UK's population, but together they affect the lives of 3 million people. Collectively therefore they are not rare at all and the total number is increasing with developments in genetic research. Families containing a parent, young adult or child with a rare genetic condfition face considerable barriers in their lives including mental health issues, relationship crisis or breakdown, isolation, financial worries, lack of opportunity and bereavement to name but a few.
By playing The Sandcastle Trust's Lottery you will be supporting us in our work providing affected families with short breaks away and special days out. We believe the support we offer is not a luxury and its impact should not be underestimated. The benefits of a special day together or a simple break away are not short lived; they can offer holistic respite for the whole family, improve mental health outcomes, reduce stigma and social isolation, help carers to maintain their quality of care and generally provides a positive focus which can empower families with a new enthusiasm and strength to deal with the often ongoing daily struggles of illness, gruelling hospital treatment and sometimes a devastating loss.
How it works
The Lottery results are calculated using the temperatures from selected destinations around Europe on a particular day each week.
Players are assigned 6 numbers when registering, that are then checked against the last 6 digits of temperatures in Fahrenheit that are published in the Daily Mail on the day of the draw.
